Associate Professor of Spanish
Jen Corry graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000 with a Ph.D. in medieval Spanish literature and supporting fields in philology, Golden Age literature and Portuguese. She holds a Master's degree in Spanish from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She received an MBA from Berry College in 2014 and she holds a third-degree black belt in Hapkido. During her time at Berry, Jen has directed ten Spanish plays, organized two music & dance festivals and taught Hapkido at Berry for ten years. She served as president of the Berry chapter of Phi Kappa Phi for 3.5 years and is currently serving as department chair.
Jen's research has focused on a number of theatrical pieces from various time periods in Spain, with special interest in narcissistic character traits. Her book, Perceptions of Magic in Medieval Spanish Literature, was published in 2005, and her translation into Spanish of John Hickman's book, Selling Guantánamo, was published in 2019. Her current research involves a comprehensive study of animal imagery in Tirso de Molina's theatre of which she expects to publish a book in 2026.
In her spare time, Jen enjoys taking care of her cats, playing music, learning new languages on Duolingo and working out at the YMCA. She has written a number of songs that can be heard on Spotify under Lazy Coffee. Her favorite charities to donate to are Floyd Felines and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
