Laboratory Technologist and Lecturer, Physics
Dr. Shamim Akhtar obtained her Master’s degree in Physics from Punjabi University in Patiala, Punjab, India, in 2008. She subsequently earned her PhD in experimental nuclear astrophysics from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in 2016. During her doctoral research, Dr. Akhtar became a certified operator of the 4.5 MV tandem accelerator at Edwards Accelerator Laboratory at Ohio University. Throughout her graduate studies, she assisted numerous external users and colleagues in executing their experiments by operating the accelerator and configuring the experimental apparatus.
Following the completion of her PhD, Dr. Akhtar served as a visiting assistant professor of physics at Colorado State University-Pueblo from August 2016 to August 2018, during which she taught a diverse array of physics lectures and laboratory courses. In 2018, she joined Montana Technological University in Butte, Montana, as a Physics Instructor. From 2021 to 2023, she held the position of Physics Director and served as a faculty senator. In this capacity, Dr. Akhtar instructed various physics courses and chaired physics committee meetings focused on curriculum development.
